Fruit Tree Selection and Cultivation

This talk will be taught by Consulting Certified Arborist Rico Montenegro, a tree expert with extensive regional and worldwide knowledge and experience. This is a class where you will learn about fruit tree selection, IPM or natural techniques of pest control, soils, and fertilization, how to train young and newly planted trees, pruning methods that include ways to maintain fruit trees in a compact or reduced-size as well as an introduction on how to restore old, neglected and abused fruit trees. Much of this information will apply to all types of trees as well.

Learn how to make the most of your own landscape by going through the important considerations of the garden design process, step-by-step. Presented by landscape designer Danielle Arendt, owner of local “designs.of.thought”.

  • Your focus space - know what we’re working with, pictures can help
  • Ideas on changes you’d like to make

 

Do You Want to Work in Horticulture? Professional Spotlight Talks

Multiple horticulture (and related fields) professionals in our area speak about many opportunities and advice about how/where to start. We have noticed at Turtle Bay that more people than ever, especially young people, are deeply interested in horticulture. We want you to know, if plants are your passion, that you can make a living, working with plants and doing what inspires you!

 

Drought Tolerant Landscaping for Pollinators at Home
Saturday, March 22 
10am - 12pm 

Turtle Bay Nursery Classroom, 1100 Arboretum Dr.

Low water gardens can be colorful, interesting, and attract lots of pollinators. Join Kelly Williams,Turtle Bay horticulture volunteer and local gardener (who has his own beautiful local drought-tolerant pollinator garden), for a vivid PowerPoint tour of xeriscape possibilities for the Redding climate. There will be a short walk into the botanical gardens following the presentation.
